Macau Macau is a wonderful combination of two cultures—the Chinese and the Portuguese. The Portuguese held it for over 500 years. In the 1940s, it was considered a backwater and the place where people from Hong Kong could gamble freely. Today walking its crowded streets you can still see remnants of its complicated past.
